Following project management roles in Hughes Aircraft and Raytheon Systems, Mark worked for several years as a consultant to the Italian Government’s overseas security agency.
Since returning to the private sector he has worked for a number of security and risk analysis providers including Control Risks, AKE, LGS Global, Risk Advisory Group, SR8 Offshore, Pyramid Temi Group, and SAG Security Services.
Mark currently advises a number of Italian companies on international risk considerations and is a security and geopolitical risk advisor to international law firm Bonelli Erede.
Director and producer of Operating in Complex Environments, a series of workshops organised in Bologna dedicated to operating in hostile or insecure environments.
Advisor to Liguria International (Regione Liguria/Ligurian Chambers of Commerce) on the design and production of internationalisation conferences and webinars.
Member of the expert working group charged with the development of the UNI/ISO31030 Travel Risk Management international standard.
An expert commentator on current affairs, Mark has been interviewed on numerous occasions by the BBC, Mediaset, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, RAI, CNN, Sky News Italia, AL24News, as well as numerous Italian newspapers and publications.
His articles on geopolitical risk have been published by Il Sole 24Ore, Milano Finanza, Risk Management News, MediTelegraph, Il Secolo XIX, La Verita’, Travel for Business, and Industria Italiana.
Since 2018 he has been a geopolitical columnist focused on Frontier and Emerging markets for the leading Italian financial magazine Fondi & Sicav.
Mark is a member of the Italian Association of Risk and Insurance Managers’ (ANRA) and was a member of the Organising Committee and workshop coordinator of the FERMA Forum 2022. FERMA is the representative organisation of the European risk management associations.
He has delivered numerous lectures to professional associations such as the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), the Italian Association of Risk and Insurance Managers (ANRA), Enterprise Risk Management International Network (ERMINe), the
Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA), and Confindustria (the Italian Association of Industries and Commerce).
Mark has lectured at a number of universities and since 2014 has been a Faculty Member of the Università Cattolica’s ASERI Postgraduate School of Economics and International Relations in Milan.
